This is a restored original 1861 dated 1861. This musket looked very rough when we received it. We were pleasantly surprised at the condition of this once we got all the crud off. 1861 dated model 1861s are very rare and usually are in rough condition. This musket is an early production as it retains the 1858 rear sight that was used early in production. The Barrel has a Hoyt 1-72 3 groove progressive depth rifled liner. ( the musket had been bored smooth at some point ) This is one of the nicest 61 dated muskets we have seen. There is minor pitting on the rear sight and some in the bolster area.
