This is a restored original Colt 1864 dated Special Model. This musket was in surprisingly good condition after we removed 100 years of dirt and grime. The original rifling is nice with only some minor pitting. The Colt special model entered service in the fall of 1861 and was used throughout the war. Colt produced about 100,000 of these muskets through 1865 and it was the third most common issued musket for Union forces during the Civil War. Only the Springfield 1861/63 and British pattern 1853 saw more use. Colt developed this model by combining features of both the Enfield and Springfield muskets and many af Colts adaptations www incorporated into the model 1863.
there is some minor pitting on the breach are of the barrel and the sight leaves have some pitting on them.
