The 1863 type II was the final variant of the US muzzeleloading musket. Dated 1864 this model made its appearance early in 1864 and was issued in large numbers throughout the summer of 1864 and into the trench warfare of Petersburg. This particular musket is a restored original that obviously saw field service. Features a Hoyt relined barrel, 3 groove progressive depth with a 1-66 twist. There is minor pitting on the lock plate and barrel. The bands are a bit loose but are held in place with band springs. A large number of this model was converted to breach loading by the second Allin conversion while many more were cut down to issue to cadets. This musket is perfect for shooting and historical interpretation.
