This is a refinished model 1917 by Winchester. The 1917 was the primary issue rifle of the US troops in WWI. It saw use in WWII primarily as a training rifle but did see some service in combat zones early in the war. Thousands were given to our allies during WWII. This particular rifle has the original barrel but also shows signs of post first war rebuild. The barrel shows a muzzle gauge at one but the bore is a bit dark. Best guess is the rifle was sent to veterans groups for ceremonial purposes. Test fired
